Why You’ll Love The New Show 'Tidying Up With Marie Kondo' And How Decluttering Can Spark Joy In Your Life January 18, 2019

If you’ve read my other blog posts about decluttering and home organizing then you probably know that I’m a huge fan of Marie Kondo. Why do I love her KonMari method so much? Because it really sparks joy and it really is life-changing!

When I heard she had a new series on Netflix airing January 1, 2019, I couldn’t wait for the new year to begin. I had to renew my expired Netflix membership so I could watch it. Her show brings her book, The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up, to life, literally. It’s heartfelt, educational, emotional but not overly dramatic and it's very inspiring.

Each episode is a real case of Marie working with her clients, most of them couples. The people are very diverse with very different life situations and goals. Parents with small children, baby on the way, after a loss of a spouse, downsizing, empty nesters and young couples. This really gives you a well-rounded experience of how her method can help all kinds of people.

The people and their life circumstances are really touching and you feel connected to them and their stories. It’s incredibly inspiring to see their transformations. Marie and her method are amazing!

I love that the point of the show is educational. Although she is taking her clients on their personal tidying up journey, she pauses to clearly share her lessons with the viewer. This way everyone benefits and learns her method.

I think the show will inspire a lot of people to tidy up their homes and spread confidence that it’s possible to achieve. All her clients in the show put in a lot of effort and it’s clear it was well worth it.

The moral of my story is I highly recommend you watch the show! I think Marie is a kin to the Dalai Lama. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you subscribe too, her message is very positive and uplifting and of great benefit to humanity. She's a very kind, compassionate, non-judgmental, wise woman with a sense of humor. It's fun to see how excited she gets about tidying up!

When I first watched her show, of course, I couldn't stop at one episode and had to watch three. I was so inspired that I immediately started decluttering my clothes following her approach to the letter. Mind you I have decluttered my entire house following her approach before and every year I do a mini update. So I didn’t have a whole lot to go through or to get rid of.

I still managed to weed out one brown paper bag worth of clothes. I know that doesn't sound like much but it still made a difference and felt great. The added benefit is I got reacquainted with the clothes that spark joy but I haven’t been wearing.

Because everything came out of the closet and dresser, now that it’s all back it has a noticeable higher vibration. This is because my clothes got re-arranged, re-organized and energized. The process brought those clothes back to life!

I find this practice to be very therapeutic and a great way to start off the new year. I’ve been continuing my tidy marathon throughout the rest of my house. Although I’ve experienced this many times it’s still always a surprise how much energy this process immediately gives me.

Here’s one of my favorite quotes from Marie Kondo’s book, The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up:

“When we honestly confront the things we own, they evoke many emotions within us. Those feelings are real. It is these emotions that give us the energy for living. Believe what your heart tells you when you ask, “Does this spark joy?” If you act on that intuition, you will be amazed at how things will begin to connect in your life and at the dramatic changes that follow. It is as if your life has been touched by magic. Putting your house in order is the magic that creates a vibrant and happy life.”

One of the things I like the most about her method is her emphasis on the importance of honoring our feelings through the tidying process.

I think that after watching the show a lot of people will feel confident to declutter on their own but if you'd like help don't hesitate to reach out. I’d be honored to help you tidy up and discover what sparks joy for you.

May you discover the things in your life that spark joy!
